IT Security is Integral to Cloud Policy Planning You’ve seen the movie version: a crack team of hardened (but lovable) thieves exercise their wits and prowess to break into a super-secure facility in order to steal a computer with data that will put away even worse bad guys and save an orphan or two as a bonus. These movie anti-heroes may be fiction, but the security of such facilities is not. For years, data centers have been constructed to manage and track physical access onto the premises. There is an entire industry around protecting access in the data centers with

Where Does Europe Stand On Cloud Computing? When we talk of cloud computing, we usually refer to the American market. Although I have tried to vary the spread by writing about cloud computing in the Indian (See: Is India The Next Cloud Computing Superpower?) and Chinese contexts (See: The Chinese Dragon And Cloud Computing ), the balance has been heavily tilted towards the United States. Today, I take a look at another cloud computing market that may have matched, or even surpassed in terms of maturity, the US. Today, I look at Europe. As you know, Europe is not a

The Rise of the Cloud Enabled Autonomous Robots On the IEEE Spectrum Robotics blog, I came across this blog post, “Cloud Robotics: Connected to the Cloud, Robots Get Smarter” written by Erico Guizzo. It’s an interesting read on the possibilities of leveraging the Cloud in the field of robotics. Robotics has long been plagued by all the processing capacity required to mimic human capabilities, though emerging technology like Cloud computing is creating new possibilities. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective CTOs “While we are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions.” – Stephen R. Covey, management guru and author of the bestseller The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I will readily admit it; the title’s a derivative of Covey’s self-help book that has sold more than 15 million copies in 38 languages since it was first published in 1989. Although the seven “habits” I am about to mention will never help as wide an audience as Covey’s general advice, they can definitely help the
